Field Evaluation of Sand-Clay Reclamation – Phase II
This report includes the results of a study to evaluate the sand-clay mix reclamation method as practiced by CF Mining Corporation at its Hardee Phosphate Complex, Hardee County, Florida.
Based on the results of the field sampling and monitoring programs and a computer modeling study, the following conclusions have been reached:
(a) Reclamation of mining areas using a mixture of sand tailings and waste phosphatic clay is feasible and cost competitive with conventional waste clay disposal.
(b) Computer modeling, after adjustment of the laboratory compressibility and permeability relationships to account for field conditions, can be used to predict the thickness of sand-clay mix in the reclamation area at the end of filling. These types of predictions are very useful for disposal area planning.
