The FIPR Institute Library houses a unique collection of phosphate-related resources.
The collection includes approximately 8,500 books and reports, thousands of volumes of journals, 26 current journal titles, hundreds of maps, numerous company and government brochures, and thousands of news clippings about the FIPR Institute, its predecessor (FIPR), and the Florida phosphate industry.
The FIPR Institute’s Library is focused on, but not limited to, the following areas as they relate to phosphate in Florida: history, deposits, mining, mineral processing, geology, chemistry, fertilizer production, regulatory information, reclamation, land use, environmental & public health, industry information, Florida ecosystems, and Florida natural resources.
In keeping with our broadened mission under the 2012 legislation that created the FIPR Institute, the Library is beginning to collect material on renewable energy, sustainability, and the mining of other (non-phosphate) minerals in Florida. Donations in relevant subject areas are always welcome.
Within the FIPR Institute Library, a public computer workstation is available on which patrons can search the catalog. The library catalog is searchable at:
Use the Basic Search form, for books in the Library and digital resources. For books in the FIPR Institute Library only, select the “Books in the Library” checkbox.
The Library serves as a clearinghouse for FIPR Institute’s (and its predecessor FIPR’s) research. Reports are published in .pdf format. In addition, two paper copies are kept in the Library’s collection.
The FIPR Institute Library will check out materials to the Florida residents, and to anyone with borrowing privileges in the Florida Polytechnic University system, regardless of residency. Materials in the circulating collection may be borrowed for up to three weeks. Renewals may be allowed if no other patron has requested the material.
Materials must be checked out in person at the FIPR Institute Library in Bartow, but renewals and holds may be requested in person, by phone (863-534-7160) or by the general contact form at the bottom of this page.
For Florida residents not able to check out materials in person, as well as non-Florida residents, FIPR Institute Library materials may be requested through interlibrary loan at their local library.
The FIPR Institute can access collections in most libraries in the United States in order to borrow materials. Some libraries that lend materials may charge for their services, and in these cases, the Institute will charge the local user accordingly. Please click on the Interlibrary Loan contact form and provide the requested information to use this service:
Interlibrary Loan – Lending
The FIPR Institute Library’s collection is a unique resource that offers many items not found in any other Florida library. The Institute is a member of the Tampa Bay Library Consortium. It participates in TBLC’s in-state delivery program of library materials. As a Florida Library Information Network member, it will provide interlibrary loans of books and copies of journal articles at no cost to virtually any library in Florida.
Reference Services and Literature Searches
The Library Director and FIPR Institute staff will attempt to answer all reference questions promptly. They have access to a wide variety of databases and resources and generally can provide this service at no cost to the user.
The FIPR Institute Library offers a free Wi-Fi connection to users who bring in their own internet-accessible devices.
